SHI streamlined a complete disaster recovery solution with added-in flexibility for future data expansion.

Challenge:

With over 20 offices and divisions throughout the country, the customer’s data was growing at a significant rate. Their existing on-premises disaster recovery (DR) solution proved to be very expensive and rather complex as they tried to accommodate company growth and expansion. After reviewing overall expenses, they needed a way to reduce their capital expenditure (capex) and streamline and operationalize their DR strategy.

Solution:

After several meetings with the customer, SHI began working on a plan to create a cost-effective DR solution that would handle organizational changes and growth with minimal impact to their existing operations.

With the help of VMware and AWS, SHI was able to design onboard, and implement a DR solution, that included:

• A brand-new VMware Cloud on AWS software-defined data center.
• Network connectivity to on-premises via IPsec VPN tunnels.
• Installation and testing of site recovery add-on services to automate the recovery of on-premises workloads to VMC.
• Implementation of VMware HCX for future migration functionality.

Outcome:

The customer’s new disaster recovery solution offers the flexibility and scalability for data growth, while reducing overall cost. They are now able to protect their data and plan for the quickest recovery.
