Disruptions for the customer’s business operations
SHI migrated 350 workloads to VMware Cloud on AWS, improving the client’s operations and saving them money.
Challenge:
A privately held jeweler was interested in migrating 350 workloads to the cloud — a move that was partially motivated by spiraling rent costs for their physical data center.
This data center was running business-critical applications to support their global business operations, so the customer needed to schedule maintenance windows for migration to minimize downtime.
With the end date for their lease rapidly approaching, they needed to complete the move and evacuate as quickly as possible.
Solution:
SHI’s cloud team met with the customer to learn more about their existing data center and understand their expectations and budget. Once this fact-finding phase was complete, our VMware and Amazon Web Services (AWS) solution engineers designed a solution which allowed them to seamlessly migrate all 350 workloads to VMware Cloud on AWS, with no impact or disruption to the customer’s business.
This project included:
- Onboarding the customer to VMware Cloud.
- Configuring network connectivity via AWS Direct Connect, which creates a secure, private connection to AWS.
- Migrating their workloads — which consisted of file, web, database, and utility servers – using VMware HCX, an application mobility platform.
Outcome:
The migration was seamless, avoiding downtime and disruption to the customer’s operations. We also offered our internal VMware expertise, enabling an easy technology transition.
By shifting the customer’s infrastructure to a more operational model and eliminating their expensive data center lease, SHI helped the customer modernize their infrastructure and reduce costs in the process.
