Challenge:
Harlandale Independent School District in San Antonio, TX serves roughly 12,000 students with 2,000 faculty and staff across two high schools, four middle schools, nine elementary schools, and two alternate campuses. Managing such a sprawling organization can be difficult without the right data and analytics.
Harlandale decided to deploy a new performance management solution called DecisionEd, which mines data from sources across a school district to give administrators a consolidated view of vital information. This presented a significant challenge as their existing on-premise infrastructure would have been overwhelmed by the demands of this advanced data analytics tool. They needed a scalable and robust solution that could be implemented quickly, so they chose to partner with SHI.
Solution:
We proposed leveraging our AWS-based landing zone Accelerator program to address Harlandale's needs. Utilizing a landing zone would not only solve the DecisionEd hosting problem but would also set Harlandale up for future success. It was designed with scalability in mind, allowing Harlandale to deploy future applications and solutions into the cloud with minimal effort. The solution also incorporated organizational unit segmentation and governance at scale, ensuring a secure environment compliant with industry best practices.
Over the 4-month span of the project, SHI’s experts conducted biweekly meetings to review progress, discuss networking diagrams and security best practices, and set up a GitHub environment. With our personal support, we ensured that Harlandale felt informed and supported throughout the process.
Outcome:
The project was completed in the required timeframe, allowing Harlandale to integrate DecisionEd without delay. Looking ahead, they plan to leverage the AWS landing zone for various purposes, starting with cloud-based backup solutions and eventually migrating some on-premise servers and services to the cloud.
Ultimately, the AWS landing zone has positioned Harlandale to better handle future IT demands, and the district looks forward to continuing its partnership with SHI to enhance its capabilities.
